The BISFed Competition & Rules Committee and the Development Committee held workshops for BISFed Members at the 2018 World Boccia Championships in Liverpool.
At the Competition and Rules Committee workshop, attended by 26 representatives from 20 different Members, the Committee reminded Members of the qualification criteria and process for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020 and answered questions. The meeting then had a constructive discussion on the existing Competition System and how it could be improved in future cycles. It was agreed that it would be helpful to survey BISFed’s Members so as to get as much feedback as possible before deciding on any modifications.
The Development Committee workshop was attended by 57 representatives from 32 Members. The Committee outlined progress in developing a pilot ‘Level 1 Boccia Coaches Course’ (held in Copenhagen, Denmark in April 2018) and a Pilot ‘Making Boccia Accessible Coaching Course’ (Port Elizabeth, South Africa in July 2018.) Our plan is to make the courses available to all BISFed Members. The meeting also held a very constructive discussion about: using common terminology in playing and coaching boccia; athlete pathways; and case studies. Discussion groups are also being formed to help Members share their thoughts and needs.
