The ‘old’ world ranking system has been used for qualification to events in 2017. It will be used for seeding purposes for all events held in 2017. The world ranking positions are calculated in the same way, with the four highest points totals from any event making up the points total.
The ‘new’ world ranking system project continues to make excellent progress. We are looking to develop a system which places greater emphasis on each match a player or side competes in, which will mean every match will count towards the world rankings. This will increase the validity and reliability of the system. At this point in the project we are looking to run the ‘new’ system as a shadow system in 2017 to enable us to test it. We will provide a further update around the start of the season (i.e. April) and will look to run workshops at regional competitions and the General Assembly to provide education and support to all member nations that will enable every member to understand the system. We anticipate that the next update of the world ranking system will be at the end of 2017 season and that this update will use the ‘new’ system. This will be used for entry to events in 2018. The principles for the world ranking system described in the 2017-2021 competition system strategy will also come in to place at this time.
